Apple (AAPL.US) launched 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models on Monday, equipped with Apple's latest M3 processor, and reduced the prices compared to previous versions.
According to the company, the M3 chip in the MacBook Air makes the 13-inch model 1.6 times faster than the M1 version released in 2020, and it is said to be 13 times faster than the latest models with Intel processors from a few years ago. The new computer runs on Apple's third-generation Mac processor.
These two laptops are similar to previous versions - the 13-inch version launched in 2022 and the 15-inch version launched last year - but may help continue the momentum of the Mac series, which has been releasing new MacBook Pro and iMac models since last October.
Although the processor speed has not significantly improved, the M3 chip has more advanced graphics, including ray tracing, which can improve game quality. Apple claims that its graphics engine is nearly 6 times faster than the 2020 MacBook Air.
In addition to the new chip and faster wireless performance, the M3 MacBook Air can now connect to two external monitors simultaneously. The biggest change may be the price reduction of the M2 13-inch MacBook Air, which now starts at $999. The M3 13-inch version starts at $1099, and the 15-inch version starts at $1299.
All configurations still include 8GB of memory, a technical specification that some Apple observers have criticized. The company also offers an upgrade service to 24GB.
Earlier reports had suggested that the new MacBook Air was about to be released. Apple is also expected to release new iPad Pro, iPad Air, as well as upgraded accessories such as keyboards and the Apple Pencil.
