On the news front, memory prices continue to draw market attention. Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen, speaking about the PC supply chain on the 19th, said that not all memory is currently in short supply, and supply of products such as DDR4 and DDR5 has already increased, with the market moving closer to high-level volatility and price confusion. He also said that rising storage chip output in mainland China could eventually ease supply constraints and put pressure on prices. The related impact will become more apparent around the end of 2027.
In addition, "Big Short" investor Michael Burry said he has significantly expanded his short bets on the semiconductor sector. He explained that major manufacturers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have shifted substantial capacity from conventional DRAM to HBM to meet surging demand for HBM from AI data centers, thereby causing tight supply of ordinary memory. However, as manufacturers gradually restore conventional memory capacity, combined with new supply being released across multiple regions globally, Burry believes that production of "normal DRAM" is recovering, the supply-demand gap will gradually narrow, and ultimately exert downward pressure on prices.
