Wedbush Securities indicated that Marvell Technology, Inc. (MRVL.US) announced this week a partnership with Alphabet Inc. Class C to develop custom AI chips, further confirming the significant advantages of custom silicon chips in the current environment. Wedbush Securities analyst Matt Bryson wrote in a report to clients, "Overall, we believe this outcome was not entirely unexpected. More importantly, we think this series of news and rumors indicates that companies with the capability for custom chip design and IP modules are in an advantageous position in the current environment. Moreover, given the abundance of market opportunities, this does not necessarily represent a zero-sum game (for instance, Marvell Technology, Inc. securing orders does not mean that Broadcom Inc.Alphabet Inc. Class C's largest TPU partneror AMD, or NVIDIA Corporation, are guaranteed to be losers)." Marvell Technology, Inc. reached an expanded cooperation agreement regarding custom semiconductor products with Alphabet Inc. Class C on July 29. Marvell Technology, Inc. stated in regulatory filings that the expanded collaboration covers a comprehensive range of custom chip projects related to the TPU ecosystem, including AI inference accelerators, storage controllers, network interface controllers, storage interface controllers, and near-memory computing. As part of the agreement, Marvell Technology, Inc. issued a warrant to Alphabet Inc. Class C on August 18, granting the right to purchase up to 58.97 million shares at an exercise price of $206.58 per share. Additionally, Bryson commented this week on the potential future TPU collaboration between AMD and Alphabet Inc. Class C, pointing out that such collaboration could be of significant importance. The range of products covered by this collaboration far exceeds a single chip category, encompassing AI inference accelerators, storage controllers, network interface controllers, memory interface controllers, and near-memory computing, thus marking Marvell Technology, Inc.'s role in Alphabet Inc. Class Cs AI infrastructure shifting from the periphery to the core. Analysts at investment research firm Morningstar noted that if all 240 subscription batches are triggered, Marvell Technology, Inc. could secure custom chip orders worth $120 billion from Alphabet Inc. Class C. Notably, collaborations between North American AI chip manufacturers and AI companies are becoming increasingly diverse, and equity ties are becoming more intricate. NVIDIA Corporation has announced an investment of $2 billion in Marvell Technology, Inc.; AMD previously reached a similar warrant collaboration with Meta. An "AI chip equity network" involving NVIDIA Corporation, AMD, Marvell Technology, Inc., Alphabet Inc. Class C, Meta, OpenAI, and Anthropic is beginning to form.
