On August 17, AstraZeneca (AZN.US) and Daiichi Sankyo jointly announced that the phase III DESTINY-Lung04 study of Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) as a first-line monotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has achieved high-level positive results.
On August 17, Astrazeneca PLC Sponsored ADR (AZN.US) and Daiichi Sankyo announced that the Phase III DESTINY-Lung04 study of Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) as a monotherapy for the first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has achieved highly positive results. This study is a global, randomized, multi-center, open-label clinical trial (n=454) that evaluated the efficacy and safety of Enhertu compared to standard treatment (pembrolizumab combined with platinum-based doublet chemotherapy) in first-line treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous NSCLC harboring HER2 exon 19 or exon 20 mutations. The primary endpoint of the study was progression-free survival (PFS). Results indicated that the PFS for patients in the Enhertu group achieved statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement compared to the standard treatment group. The study will continue as planned to evaluate secondary endpoints, including overall survival (OS). It is noteworthy that Enhertu is the first ADC drug to successfully demonstrate an improvement in PFS for NSCLC patients as a monotherapy compared to standard treatment in a Phase III study.
