Meanwhile, capital expenditures surged to 52.8 billion yuan, far exceeding the expected 32.1 billion yuan, nearly tripling from 19.1 billion yuan in the same period last year, resulting in a negative free cash flow of 13.8 billion yuan for the quarter. The company stated that excluding prepayments for AI computing power procurement, free cash flow would be 37.6 billion yuan. The management characterized the aforementioned expenditures as strategic upfront investments in AI infrastructure, aimed at supporting the Hy model upgrade, WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy inference demands, WeChat AI initiatives, and meeting the continuous growth in external customer demand for cloud services.
