On April 29th, Schaeffler and ZF Steering officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
On April 29th, Schaeffler signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CIDI (03881) officially. The two parties will focus on commercial vehicles such as pure electric intelligent mining trucks and logistics vehicles, and cooperate on the development of distributed electric drive systems and solutions, including whole vehicle electronic and electrical architecture and whole vehicle distributed control, to jointly promote the electrification and intelligent transformation of commercial vehicles, and create a benchmark cooperative model for intelligent commercial scenarios. The signing guests from left to right are: Senior Vice President of CIDI Liu Zhou, CEO Hu Sibo, Co-founder Ma Wei, Chief Technology Officer Mr. Uwe Wagner of Schaeffler Group, Chief Technology Officer of China Region Liu Yong, and Senior Vice President of Schaeffler Engineering China Region Mei Jinren. Deep complementarity of technology and scenarios anchors the direction of commercial vehicle transformation Driven by policies, technology, and scenarios, the Chinese commercial vehicle industry is undergoing a deep transformation towards "electrification + intelligence", with increasing demand for smart solutions in scenarios such as mining trucks and closed-loop logistics. As a globally leading supplier of automotive and industrial products, Schaeffler has over 75 years of technological expertise and top engineering capabilities in areas such as electric drives, mechatronics, chassis applications, and whole vehicle system integration, providing efficient and reliable distributed electric drive solutions for commercial vehicles. CIDI is a global leading intelligent driving hard technology company, focusing on the development of automatic driving mining trucks, logistics vehicles, V2X vehicle networking, and intelligent perception technology. With mature commercial experience in closed-loop scenarios such as mining areas and logistics, the strengths of both parties complement each other highly. According to the agreement, the two parties will be strategic suppliers and preferred customers in the Chinese market, promoting rapid transformation of technological achievements through joint research and development, co-creation of solutions, resource sharing, and industrialization, thereby enhancing product competitiveness and market response speed. Focus on Four Core Technologies and Overcome Distributed Electric Drive System Challenges The two parties will focus on pure electric intelligent mining trucks and logistics vehicles as core application scenarios, and collaborate on four key technologies related to distributed electric drive systems to build a complete technical solution: Development of Whole Vehicle Electronic and Electrical Architecture: Build an efficient, reliable, and scalable electronic and electrical architecture to support the intelligent upgrade of commercial vehicles. Development of Whole Vehicle Distributed Control: Tackle the technology of distributed control to enhance vehicle dynamic control accuracy and operational stability. Development of Whole Vehicle Health Management: Establish a comprehensive health management system covering real-time monitoring of vehicle status, fault warning, and whole lifecycle management. Integration and Testing of Whole Vehicle Systems: Carry out full-process system integration and verification to ensure the compatibility and reliability of related technologies and solutions. Deep Cultivation of the Industry to Build a New Ecosystem for Intelligent Electrification of Commercial Vehicles This cooperation is not accidental. Based in the central region's innovation and technology industry highland, the two parties have rooted themselves in the regional intelligent connectivity and new energy vehicle industry ecosystems, and have already formed a solid cooperation foundation in Changsha. In 2019, Schaeffler Intelligent Driving Technology (Changsha) Co., Ltd. and the second research and development center of Schaeffler China Region settled in Changsha, Hunan, focusing on automotive mechatronics integration, intelligent travel, and electric drive fields. Leveraging the local industry clusters and technological collaborative advantages, the two parties have completed preliminary technical exchanges in areas like intelligent chassis, laying a solid foundation for this strategic cooperation. Dr. Liu Yong, Chief Technology Officer of Schaeffler China Region, said: As a technology company focusing on driving technology, Schaeffler has always adhered to innovation as the core of DRIVE. Based on the wave of electrification and intelligence in commercial vehicles, Schaeffler will fully utilize its deep technological expertise, outstanding system capabilities, and other advantages to jointly drive the innovation and upgrade of intelligent driving technology in commercial vehicles with partners, and assist in the high-quality development of the industry. Dr. Ma Wei, Co-founder of CIDI, said: The electrification and intelligence of commercial vehicles are inevitable trends and rigid demands in the industry's development. Leveraging mature full-stack automatic driving technology and the scale commercialization capabilities in demand-driven scenarios such as mining areas, ports, and parks, CIDI will deeply integrate the advantages of both parties and continuously create perceptible and highly effective core values for customers, comprehensively facilitating safer commercial vehicle travel, higher operational efficiency, and more reliable operations. In the future, the two parties will continue to deepen collaborative cooperation, focus on industry needs, explore innovative technologies, and help the transformation of the electrification and intelligence of commercial vehicles to new heights, injecting lasting energy into the intelligent, green, and integrated development of the transportation industry.
