According to estimates at the border checkpoints, there were approximately 980,000 mainland tourists entering Hong Kong via various sea, land, and air control stations over the past five days, representing an increase of about 7% compared to the same period last year.
The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, chaired a cross-departmental working group meeting to comprehensively coordinate and supervise the preparatory work of various departments for the Golden Week of May 1st to 5th, when Mainland tourists will be visiting Hong Kong. The Immigration Department estimates that approximately 980,000 Mainland tourists will enter Hong Kong over the five-day period, representing an increase of about 7% compared to the previous year. The Tourism Commission and the industry estimate that around 770 tour groups will be entering Hong Kong during the Golden Week. The Tourism Commission has reminded travel agents receiving Mainland tour groups to stagger their entry times and coordinate with relevant attractions and units to implement appropriate crowd control measures. The authorities have reduced the leave of frontline personnel at border checkpoints, flexibly adjusting manpower and opening additional inspection counters. During the period from April 30th to May 5th, MTR will enhance train services on the East Rail line during different time periods. The Transport Department has coordinated with relevant operators to strengthen transportation services connecting various border control points, increasing the frequency of Kowloon Motor Bus and New World First Bus services to approximately 1 minute and 2 minutes per bus during peak cross-border passenger flow periods. Additional quotas for cross-border direct buses will also be issued to enhance services. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will deploy personnel to patrol and monitor Tai Tan Wan, Sai Wan, and Long Ke Wan camps day and night, enforce laws against violations, and utilize drones and CCTV systems to monitor camp conditions. Additional personnel will be deployed daily along the coastline, including beaches and popular swimming areas, in Sok Kwu Wan to patrol.
