On April 13th to 14th, the Intermediate People's Court of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, publicly tried the defendant entity, Evergrande Group Co., Ltd., charged by the Shenzhen People's Procuratorate with the crimes of illegal absorption of public deposits, fundraising fraud, illegal lending, fraudulent issuance of securities, improper disclosure of important information, and corporate bribery. The defendant entity, Evergrande Real Estate Group Co., Ltd., was charged with fraudulent issuance of securities, and the defendant, Xu Jiaying, was charged with illegal absorption of public deposits, fundraising fraud, illegal lending, illegal use of funds, fraudulent issuance of securities, improper disclosure of important information, embezzlement, and corporate bribery.
During the trial, the court conducted investigations and debates around the facts of the charges with the prosecution and defense. The defendant entity and Xu Jiaying made their final statements. Xu Jiaying admitted guilt and expressed remorse in court. The court will announce the sentence at a later date.
Some members of the People's Congress, CPPCC members, relatives of the defendants, representatives of fundraising participants, and others attended the trial as observers.
