The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, stated that despite the special circumstances and external threats, the Assembly of Experts in Iran convened successfully and completed the selection of the Supreme Leader. He expressed gratitude for this.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement congratulating Mojtaba Khamenei on being elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran and expressing support for the decision of the Assembly of Experts. The statement indicated that this election marks a new stage in the Iranian revolution, demonstrating that the operation of the Islamic system does not depend on individuals, and the revolution and the state will continue to advance. The Revolutionary Guard stated that they will strictly obey all orders issued by Mojtaba Khamenei, defend the values of the Islamic revolution, and safeguard the valuable legacy left by previous leaders. The Revolutionary Guard emphasized that they will do everything to ensure the authority of the Supreme Leader and the security of the country.
Trump threatens that the new Iranian leader "won't last long"
U.S. President Trump threatened on the 8th that the newly appointed leader of Iran "must get our approval," otherwise "he will not last long." Trump also stated that he would consider accepting individuals associated with the "old regime" in Iran as the new leader, as many of them "may qualify."
On the 5th, Trump claimed that he "must be personally involved" in selecting the next leader of Iran, and vowed not to accept the son of the late Supreme Leader Khamenei as the new leader of Iran.
