The unemployment rate for local residents in Macau was 2.2% from November 2025 to January 2026.

Overall, the unemployment rate (1.7%) has decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period, while the underemployment rate (1.7%) has increased by 0.2 percentage points.
On March 2, data from the Statistics and Census Bureau of Macau showed that from November 2025 to January 2026, the unemployment rate of local residents (2.2%) decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period (October to December 2025); meanwhile, the underemployment rate of local residents (2.2%) increased by 0.2 percentage points. Among the unemployed residents (6,500 people), the majority were previously engaged in the retail industry and real estate and business services. In addition, the proportion of newly added labor force seeking their first job decreased by 1.7 percentage points to 9.2%. The underemployed residents (6,400 people) were mostly working in the transportation and storage industry and real estate and business services. Overall, the unemployment rate (1.7%) decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period, while the underemployment rate (1.7%) increased by 0.2 percentage points. Based on preliminary estimates from immigration data, it is estimated that there were approximately 109,300 Macau residents and foreign employees working in Macau but residing abroad during the reference period. The total workforce, consisting of these individuals and the labor force residing in Macau (385,400 people), amounted to around 494,800 people, which is 800 fewer than the previous period.
