In 2025, the number of newly completed private residential units in Hong Kong is 18,448, which is a 24% decrease compared to 24,261 in 2024.
According to data released by the Hong Kong Rating and Valuation Department, the number of newly completed private residential units in Hong Kong in December was 891, an increase of 1.3 times compared to the previous month's 383 units. However, the total number of completed units for the whole year of 2025 was only 18,448, a decrease of 24% compared to 24,261 units in 2024. This was close to 90% of the Hong Kong government's initial forecast of around 20,862 units.
In December, the focus of completed units continued to be on small and medium-sized units, with 537 units having a usable area of less than 431 square feet, accounting for over 60% of the total number of units completed in the period. There were also 341 units in the 431 to 752 square feet range, accounting for 38% of the total, with only 5 and 8 units falling into the medium-sized (753 to 1,076 square feet) and large-sized (1,076 to 1,721 square feet) categories, respectively.
In terms of geographical distribution, the first 12 months of newly completed buildings were mostly concentrated in the Kowloon area, with 9,002 units completed, accounting for nearly half of the total completed units. Many of these units came from supply hubs like Kai Tak.
