On February 5th, at the opening ceremony of the "AI with HKPC" Smart AI Solutions Exhibition, Professor Sunny Chai, Director of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau, delivered a speech, stating that the Hong Kong SAR Government has always supported businesses in embracing the opportunities brought by AI. The government is actively preparing to formally establish the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute within this year, to promote upstream research and development of AI, mid-stream to downstream result conversion, and the exploration of application scenarios. Sunny Chai mentioned that artificial intelligence is a key industry for the transformation and upgrading of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong SAR Government will fully support the development of artificial intelligence. They will continue to implement the development strategy of "strengthening infrastructure and promoting application orientation", and promote the deep integration of AI technology with various industries, actively aligning with the national "AI + various industries" initiative. He pointed out that the Hong Kong SAR Government has been promoting AI development comprehensively in terms of research, computing power, data, talent, and funds, steadily advancing multiple policy measures. The existing AIR@InnoHK research platform has already funded 16 laboratories focusing on artificial intelligence and Siasun Robot & Automation, including the Hong Kong Generative Artificial Intelligence Research Center which researches and launches large models produced in Hong Kong. In terms of computing power, Hong Kong's overall computing power has reached 5000 PFLOPS, with the Digital Hub Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Center accounting for 3000 PFLOPS of computing power, which is a key element supporting the development of AI in Hong Kong. In addition, the Data Park development project in the North District will further enhance the scale and level of Hong Kong's overall computing power, promoting the development of the data and AI-related industries and establishing Hong Kong as an international hub for computing power. Furthermore, Hong Kong has launched a HK$3 billion AI funding scheme to support local universities, research institutions, and companies in fully utilizing the computing power of the supercomputing center. So far, approximately 20 projects have been approved for funding. To enhance support for businesses, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer will launch a "Digital Enterprise Identity" within the year, equipped with an "AI Assistant" to provide more personalized government services to business users and help them reduce operating costs. In addition, the Digital Transformation Pilot Programme will incorporate AI and cybersecurity digital solutions to encourage small and medium enterprises to apply AI to enhance their competitiveness. Sunny Chai emphasized that artificial intelligence is changing the world at an unprecedented pace. With its unique research foundation, international talent, and open market environment, Hong Kong is the best soil to drive the industrialization of AI. The Trade and Industry Department actively assists businesses in mastering AI technology and enhancing AI governance, not only laying a solid application foundation for businesses but also nurturing digital talents with future vision in Hong Kong, and promoting continuous industrial upgrading.
