The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has released an announcement on imposing tariffs on some imported goods from the United States.
On March 4th, the Ministry of Finance announced that the State Council Customs Tariff Commission issued a notice on imposing tariffs on certain imported goods from the United States. Additional tariffs will be imposed on the imported goods listed in the annexes originating from the United States, based on the current applicable tariff rates. The current bonded and tax exemption policies remain unchanged, and the tariffs imposed this time will not be exempted. On March 3, 2025, the United States government announced a further 10% tariff on all Chinese goods imported to the US on the grounds of fentanyl. The unilateral imposition of tariffs by the US damages the multilateral trading system, increases the burden on American companies and consumers, and undermines the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between China and the US.
In accordance with the laws and regulations such as the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, and the Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China, as well as the basic principles of international law, with the approval of the State Council, tariffs will be imposed on certain imported goods originating from the United States starting from March 10, 2025. The relevant details are as follows:
1. A 15% tariff will be imposed on chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton. Please refer to Appendix 1 for the specific list of goods.
2. A 10% tariff will be imposed on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. Please refer to Appendix 2 for the specific list of goods.
3. Additional tariffs will be imposed on the imported goods listed in the annexes originating from the United States based on the current applicable tariff rates. The current bonded and tax exemption policies remain unchanged, and the tariffs imposed this time will not be exempted.
4. Goods that have already been shipped from the port of origin before March 10, 2025, and are imported between March 10, 2025, and April 12, 2025, will not be subject to the tariffs imposed in this announcement.
