The Director of the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Development Bureau, Edward Yau, stated in a radio program that in recent years, electronic commerce has been developing rapidly worldwide, with e-commerce accounting for about 20% of global trade, reaching 6.2 trillion US dollars. The e-commerce market revenue is growing at a double-digit rate annually, with an increasing number of consumers. He believes that this is a global trend and encourages Hong Kong companies to develop towards e-commerce.
He mentioned that many Hong Kong companies are developing e-commerce and need assistance to enter the mainland market. Hong Kong Trade Development Council and other organizations provide them with information and funds. In August last year, the Trade Development Council held the "Hong Kong Good Products Expo" to help companies understand the actual operation of the mainland e-commerce market. 230 companies participated, with online participation reaching 90 million people. The results were very good, with 60% of participants reporting increased business, 90% believing they have enough information to develop their business, and 80% indicating they will continue to participate.
He mentioned that the second "Hong Kong Good Products Expo" will be held in August this year, not only promoting mainland e-commerce platforms but also expected to launch in ASEAN countries. The Trade Development Council's Hong Kong Exhibition Office will introduce Hong Kong products in local markets. He expects the number of participating companies in this year's expo to be no less than last year. He believes that mainland consumers have a lot of confidence in Hong Kong brands, especially in health products, cosmetics, and food, presenting a great opportunity for Hong Kong companies in this regard.
