On February 28, Rosanna Law, Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, spoke about the new measures related to the cultural and tourism industry in the new "Budget" of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Tourism Board will guide the industry to make full use of various measures to benefit Hong Kong, flexibly utilize existing resources, better leverage Hong Kong's own advantages, and actively promote the comprehensive integration of culture, sports, and tourism in Hong Kong. With the joint efforts of the government and the industry, the cultural, sports, and tourism industries in Hong Kong are expected to flourish. Law pointed out that in 2024, the tourism industry will continue to recover, and the number of visitors to Hong Kong will steadily increase. The Central Government introduced several favorable measures last year, including the reinstatement of "one entry multiple visits" personal travel endorsements for Shenzhen residents to Hong Kong, and the expansion of arrangements to non-resident residents holding Shenzhen residence permits. Benefiting from the new measures and an increase in overseas visitors, Hong Kong has seen a steady flow of people since the end of last year. During the recent Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year period, industries such as retail and catering reported increased business. In 2025, it is estimated that Hong Kong will receive 49 million visitors, with an increase of about ten percent compared to the number of visitors in 2024. Building on this positive momentum, Hong Kong will continue to enhance the integration of culture, sports, and tourism, attracting more visitors and stimulating the economy. Various sports and cultural events will be held in Hong Kong, such as the World Grand Prix Snooker Tournament, the Hong Kong International Rugby Sevens, and the return of the LIV Golf tournament. In the field of cultural and artistic events, Art March includes events such as the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Art Basel, Art Central, and the Hong Kong Film and Entertainment Expo spanning March and April. Many sports and cultural events receive government support, including the "M" brand, the Cultural and Artistic Event Fund, and the Film Development Fund. These activities are also attractive to local Hong Kong residents and visitors, and it is hoped that through support, these events will grow and strengthen, driving the development of leisure, entertainment, and tourism industries to create economic benefits for Hong Kong. Furthermore, the 15th National Games (15th Games), the 12th Paralympic Games, and the 9th Special Olympics (Special Olympic Games) will be held in the Greater Bay Area in November and December this year. The governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are working together to prepare for these events. The events in the Hong Kong competition area are expected to attract over 100,000 spectators from Hong Kong, the mainland, and other regions. Hong Kong will host these events well and use this opportunity to drive consumption and economic development through events, aiming to leverage the synergistic effects of culture, sports, and tourism. In the second half of the year, Hong Kong will make good use of resources to attract culturally and strategically significant cultural and sports events to continue to settle in Hong Kong. Continuing to invest in tourism development and injecting momentum into the tourism industry, Hong Kong's culture, sports, and tourism bureau will support cultural and sports events through various means, such as the Cultural and Artistic Event Fund and the "M" brand program, to enhance the attractiveness of cultural and artistic events and sports events for commercial sponsorship. Support will also be provided in terms of venues and promotion to further strengthen Hong Kong's status as the capital of events in the region.
