On February 13, CINNO Research's chief analyst Zhou Hua stated that due to the Spring Festival holiday and the traditional off-season, the prices of mobile phone panels for various technologies in February are still mainly flat, with LCD main production lines maintaining full production; at the same time, the demand for flexible AMOLED panels continues to be strong, and it is expected that there will still be a situation of supply exceeding demand in the second half of the year.
CINNO Research Summary
Due to the Spring Festival holiday and the traditional off-season, the prices of mobile phone panels for various technologies in February are still mainly flat, with a slight decrease in demand for a-Si brands, but the main production lines are still running at full capacity; thanks to the growth in demand for automotive panels, the main LTPS production lines are expected to maintain full production throughout the first quarter; Meanwhile, the demand for flexible AMOLED panels continues to be strong, with a supply exceeding demand situation expected in the second half of the year. Major manufacturers are considering raising prices to control losses.
a-Si: In February, entering the traditional off-season, the demand for a-Si brand has slightly decreased, but the main production lines are still running at full capacity, and panel prices remain stable. However, with a large influx of new production capacity, increased market supply intensifies competition, and the prices of upcoming a-Si new products are expected to decrease slightly by 0.1 US dollars compared to now.
LTPS: Due to the growth in demand for automotive panels, LTPS main production lines will continue to operate at full capacity in the first quarter. LTPS panel prices will remain stable in the short term, but the demand for panels in mobile applications is still sluggish, and the prices of LTPS panels may still face slight downward pressure in the future.
AMOLED: This year, Chinese mobile phone brand manufacturers will significantly shift their demand from rigid AMOLED to domestic flexible AMOLED panels, leading to a continuous decrease in demand for rigid AMOLED panels from major manufacturer Samsung Display (SDC). Some production lines may experience idleness. Despite SDC significantly lowering prices for new projects, they still do not meet the price expectations of domestic manufacturers. The demand for flexible AMOLED panels continues to be strong, with a supply exceeding demand situation expected in the second half of the year. Major manufacturers are considering raising prices to control losses.
CINNO Research predicts that in February and March 2025, the prices of existing a-Si panel projects will remain at a low level and will not decrease further, with new project prices expected to decrease slightly by 0.1 US dollars. The prices of LTPS panels will remain stable in the short term, but may still face slight downward pressure in the future. The prices of rigid/flexible AMOLED panels for existing projects will remain stable.
