The China Logistics and Purchasing Federation and JD Group jointly released the China E-commerce Logistics Index for January 2025 at 109.2 points, a decrease of 3.5 points from the previous month. Among the sub-indices, total business volume index, rural business volume index, fulfillment rate index, personnel index, satisfaction rate index, actual load rate index, inventory turnover rate index, logistics time efficiency index, and cost index all experienced a decline. The total business volume index for e-commerce logistics showed a slight decline. In January, the total business volume index for e-commerce logistics was 123.4 points, a decrease of 7.5 points from the previous month. Across regions, the total business volume index for all regions in the country experienced a decline, with the central region experiencing the largest decrease of 8.1 points. The rural e-commerce logistics business volume index notably declined. In January, the rural e-commerce logistics business volume index was 120.8 points, a decrease of 8.5 points from the previous month. Across regions, the rural business volume index for all regions in the country experienced a decline, with the central region experiencing the largest decrease of 9.1 points. Inventory turnover rate, satisfaction rate, and personnel index saw a slight decline. Due to factors such as some express delivery services being suspended during the Spring Festival holiday and a decrease in personnel due to people returning to their hometowns, the inventory turnover rate decreased by 2.0 points compared to the previous month. The satisfaction rate and personnel index decreased by 1.3 points and 3.0 points respectively. The supply capacity of e-commerce logistics enterprises showed a slight decline. Logistics time efficiency, fulfillment rate, and actual load rate index experienced a notable decrease. In January, affected by the decrease in business volume, the actual load rate index decreased by 4.8 points compared to the previous month. The logistics time efficiency and fulfillment rate indices decreased by 5.0 and 4.1 points respectively, falling below 100 points. The service efficiency of e-commerce logistics enterprises fluctuated due to changes in business volume, remaining relatively stable compared to the same period last year. With the approach of the Spring Festival holiday, many online businesses temporarily closed or suspended operations, and online platforms issued notices allowing merchants to temporarily suspend shipping during the holiday period. In January, the e-commerce logistics index experienced a seasonal decline, with the total business volume index and rural business volume index decreasing compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same period last year, major e-commerce platforms paid more attention to the shift from "Spring Festival traffic" to "consumption increment." They launched activities such as live streaming e-commerce, Spring Festival marketing, "red envelope distribution," "holiday raffles," "online interactions," etc., providing users with a more enriched interactive experience and unleashing the new potential of holiday consumption. Data released by the State Post Bureau shows that during the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, the number of parcels collected nationwide reached 1.145 billion, an increase of 31% compared to the same lunar period in 2024; and the number of parcels delivered reached 782 million, an increase of 26.7% compared to the same lunar period in 2024. From the supply side, many express delivery companies in China remained at their posts, fully ensuring the demand for parcel collection and delivery during the holiday. However, due to factors such as limited resource allocation during the holiday period and extreme weather changes, the timely delivery of parcels to users was impacted to varying degrees. Logistics time efficiency, fulfillment rate, actual load rate, inventory turnover rate, satisfaction rate, and personnel index all experienced varying degrees of decline. Looking ahead, in the early part of February, some platforms and merchants are still in a temporary shipping suspension status, and the growth momentum of the e-commerce logistics index needs to be strengthened. However, with the gradual resumption of work after the holiday and the gradual recovery of delayed orders, the overall upward trend of the e-commerce logistics index is expected to continue.
