As the Chinese New Year falls on January 29 in 2025, the month of January is considered a slow sales period in the annual market volume. With the end of the 2024 scrappage and replacement policies, January 2025 saw a weaker market as many consumers completed their vehicle purchase plans before the Chinese New Year in December 2024. The industry faced pressure of low sales growth in January, so some manufacturers, after meeting their 2024 goals, are considering transferring a certain amount of sales to ensure a strong start in January 2025. On January 15, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the "Achievements in High-Quality Development of the Chinese Economy." The Ministry of Commerce announced that in 2024, over 6.8 million vehicles were traded in as part of the car scrappage scheme, driving related product sales to over 1.3 trillion yuan. Recently, the Central Government has allocated 81 billion yuan for the first batch of funding for the car scrappage scheme in 2025, and the Ministry of Commerce has issued detailed regulations to support the car, home appliance, home decoration, and electric bicycle scrappage schemes in 2025. With various measures to boost consumption showing results, the automotive market is gradually recovering. Due to strong consumer price expectations, some car manufacturers have launched effective promotions. According to industry data, in December 2024, manufacturers with over 10,000 units of new energy vehicles sold accounted for 94.2% of the total monthly sales. Preliminary data shows that these manufacturers sold 856,000 units in January.
