Research by ParrotAnalytics shows that the first season of the popular series "Severance" on Apple Inc.'s (AAPL.US) streaming platform Apple TV+ has generated over $200 million in revenue for the company.
Parrot uses its own formula, the "Content Value System," to calculate the percentage of revenue generated by a specific work in a specific market during a specific time period.
Compared to other popular shows on Apple TV+, "Severance" has also performed well. During the same time period, "Slow Horses" generated approximately $184.8 million in revenue, while "The Morning Show" brought in an impressive $299.4 million. Over a longer statistical timeframe, from the third quarter of 2020 to the third quarter of 2024, "Ted Lasso" also reached a total revenue of $609.4 million.
Brandon Katz, Senior Entertainment industry strategist at Parrot, said, "The critically acclaimed first season of 'Severance' not only aligns with Apple Inc.'s premium brand positioning but also brings long-tail value to the streaming platform."
The research found that nearly half of the revenue from "Severance" comes from the 12 months after the end of the season, highlighting the show's ability to attract viewers for repeat viewing. This also explains Apple Inc.'s decision to release the second season weekly.
Katz explained that the weekly release of episodes encourages viewers to catch up and rewatch, which contributes to revenue generation after the conclusion of the first season.
