The truck driver union members of COST.US have voted to go on strike, with 85% of members supporting the strike. This decision was made before the deadline for negotiating a new labor contract at the end of the month. The union stated in a declaration, "This vote directly indicates that the company has failed to engage in constructive negotiations and has refused to provide a fair contract offer that reflects the company's record profits."
The current labor contract covers over 18,000 COST.US employees and is set to expire on January 31st. The final round of negotiations will begin on January 20th.
Sean O'Brien, the president of the truck driver union, stated, "We have made it clear to COST.US from the outset that if a historic, industry-leading agreement is not reached, our members will not work a day after January 31st."
Furthermore, he warned, "COST.US greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing."
It is worth mentioning that COST.US union members conducted a simulated demonstration nationwide last week in preparation for the possible strike, including activities in Long Island and San Diego.
