According to reports, a hearing for the lawsuit filed by Nippon Steel and United States Steel Corporation (X.US) against the Biden administration is scheduled to take place between February and March.
It is understood that these two steel manufacturers filed a lawsuit on January 6, opposing Biden's order to block Nippon Steel's $14.9 billion acquisition of United States Steel Corporation on national security grounds. Prior to this, the Biden administration had extended the deadline for Nippon Steel to abandon the acquisition of United States Steel Corporation to June 18.
Before the US presidential election in November last year, this merger had become highly politicized. Both Democratic candidate Biden and Republican candidate Trump pledged to kill the merger while campaigning for support in the swing state of Pennsylvania where United States Steel Corporation is headquartered. David McCall, the president of the United States Steel Corporation Workers Union, also opposed the merger.
