Energy Production in December 2024
In December, the production of raw coal, crude oil, natural gas, and electricity in industrial enterprises above a designated scale (hereinafter referred to as industrial enterprises above designated scale) grew steadily.
I. Production of Raw Coal, Crude Oil, and Natural Gas and Related Situation
The production of raw coal accelerated. In December, the output of raw coal in industrial enterprises above designated size was 440 million tons, an increase of 4.2% year-on-year, with a growth rate 2.4 percentage points higher than in November; the daily production was 14.156 million tons. Imports of coal were 52.35 million tons, an increase of 10.9%.
In 2024, the output of raw coal in industrial enterprises above designated size was 4.76 billion tons, an increase of 1.3% year-on-year. Imports of coal were 540 million tons, an increase of 14.4%.
The production of crude oil accelerated. In December, the output of crude oil in industrial enterprises above designated size was 179 million tons, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, with a growth rate 1.2 percentage points higher than in November; the daily production was 577,000 tons. Imports of crude oil were 47.84 million tons, a decrease of 1.1%.
In 2024, the output of crude oil in industrial enterprises above designated size was 2.1282 billion tons, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year. Imports of crude oil were 553.42 million tons, a decrease of 1.9%.
The processing of crude oil remained stable. In December, the processing volume of crude oil in industrial enterprises above designated size was 593.5 million tons, an increase of 0.6% year-on-year, with a growth rate 0.4 percentage points higher than in November; the daily processing was 1.915 million tons. In 2024, the processing volume of crude oil in industrial enterprises above designated size was 7.0843 billion tons, a decrease of 1.6% year-on-year.
The production of natural gas steadily increased. In December, the output of natural gas in industrial enterprises above designated size was 218 billion cubic meters, an increase of 3.6% year-on-year, with a growth rate 0.5 percentage points higher than in November; the daily production was 7 billion cubic meters. Imports of natural gas were 11.56 million tons, a decrease of 7.9%.
In 2024, the output of natural gas in industrial enterprises above designated size was 246.4 billion cubic meters, an increase of 6.2% year-on-year. Imports of natural gas were 131.69 million tons, an increase of 9.9%.
II. Electric Power Production Situation
Electricity production in industrial enterprises above designated scale grew steadily. In December, the electricity generation in industrial enterprises above designated scale was 846.2 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 0.6% year-on-year; the daily electricity generation was 273.0 billion kilowatt-hours. In 2024, the electricity generation in industrial enterprises above designated scale was 94.181 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year.
In terms of different types, in December, the growth rate of nuclear power generation and CECEP Solar Energy power generation in industrial enterprises above designated size accelerated, while thermal power generation changed from growth to decline, and hydropower and wind power generation changed from decline to growth. Specifically, thermal power generation in industrial enterprises above designated size decreased by 2.6% year-on-year, compared to an increase of 1.4% in November; hydropower generation increased by 5.5%, compared to a decrease of 1.9% in November; nuclear power generation increased by 11.4%, with a growth rate 8.3 percentage points higher than in November; wind power generation increased by 6.6%, compared to a decrease of 3.3% in November; CECEP Solar Energy power generation increased by 28.5%, with a growth rate 18.2 percentage points higher than in November.
