In November 2024, overall exports of goods from Hong Kong decreased by 0.6% year-on-year, while imports of goods increased by 3.1% year-on-year.

The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong government today (January 16) released the trade volume and price statistics for foreign goods in November 2024. Compared with November 2023, the overall export volume of goods in Hong Kong fell by 0.6%, while the import volume of goods increased by 3.1%. Compared with the same period in 2023, the overall export volume and import volume of goods in Hong Kong increased by 5.1% and 3.3% respectively in the first 11 months of 2024. Seasonally adjusted figures show that, compared with the previous three months, the overall export volume and import volume of goods decreased by 4.6% and 1.6% respectively as of November 2024. The changes in trade volume are calculated by deducting the impact of price changes from the changes in trade value of goods. Compared with November 2023, the overall export prices and import prices of goods increased by 2.7% and 2.5% respectively in November 2024. Compared with the same period in 2023, the overall export prices and import prices of goods increased by 3.7% and 3.3% respectively in the first 11 months of 2024. The price changes in foreign trade are reflected by changes in the unit price index of foreign trade. This index is calculated based on the actual prices of average unit values or individual commodities. The trade price ratio index is calculated based on the ratio of the overall export price index to the import price index of goods. Compared with the same period in 2023, this index increased by 0.2% in November 2024, and by 0.4% in the first 11 months of 2024.
