NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) criticized the upcoming export restrictions on new chips, stating that the White House is attempting to weaken the incoming Trump administration with last-minute rules. The upcoming reforms will restrict the sale of American artificial intelligence chips, which will tighten export restrictions to most countries in the world, whether national or corporate. This is part of the efforts made by the U.S. over the years to prevent China and Russia from gaining access to the latest technology. Ned Finkle, Vice President of Government Affairs at NVIDIA Corporation, stated in a statement, "The extreme 'national cap' policy will affect mainstream computers around the world, which does not help promote national security and instead will drive the world towards alternative technologies." NVIDIA Corporation is a major seller of so-called AI accelerators, which data center operators use to develop the latest artificial intelligence models. However, this technology is based on graphics processing units (GPUs) used in gaming and other fields. Finkle said, "The Biden administration's control of everyday data center computers and technology that already exists in global gaming computers under the guise of anti-China measures is meaningless." Insiders said this week that the regulations could be issued as early as Friday, implementing three-tier chip restrictions. They stated that some U.S. allies will still have full access to American semiconductor technology. However, most countries will face new restrictions, including limits on the total computing power that can flow to one country. A representative of the White House National Security Council declined to comment on these regulations. Finkle said, "The last-minute policy introduced by the Biden administration will be criticized by the American industry and international community. We encourage President Biden to not rush to implement a policy that will only harm the U.S. economy, hinder the U.S., and allow U.S. adversaries to succeed before the incoming Trump administration." NVIDIA Corporation CEO Jensen Huang stated earlier this week that he is prepared to meet with Trump and assist the new administration. Huang said in an interview with Bloomberg TV, "I would be very happy to go see him and congratulate him and do what we can to help this administration succeed." He mentioned at that time that the CEO had not been invited to visit Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Over the past two years, NVIDIA Corporation has been the biggest beneficiary of the surge in AI spending, helping the once niche company become the world's most valuable chipmaker. Following a 239% rise in 2023, the company's stock nearly doubled last year. Huang, speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, expressed his expectation that Trump would reduce regulations.
