In August 2023, according to the quick customs statistics, China imported 640,000 tons of steel, a decrease of 38,000 tons or 5.6% compared to the previous month. The average price was $1669.2 per ton, an increase of $67.0 per ton or 4.2% compared to the previous month. From January to August, the cumulative steel imports reached 5.058 million tons, a decrease of 2.393 million tons or 32.1% compared to the same period last year.
In August 2023, China exported 8.282 million tons of steel, an increase of 974,000 tons or 13.3% compared to the previous month. The average price was $810.7 per ton, a decrease of $56.3 per ton or 6.5% compared to the previous month. From January to August, the cumulative steel exports reached 58.785 million tons, an increase of 12.986 million tons or 28.4% compared to the same period last year.
In August 2023, China imported 106.415 million tons of iron ore, an increase of 1,293.9 million tons or 13.8% compared to the previous month. The average price was $107.9 per ton, an increase of $3.0 per ton or 2.8% compared to the previous month. From January to August, the cumulative iron ore imports reached 775.658 million tons, an increase of 53.339 million tons or 7.4% compared to the same period last year.
