On Christmas Day, Netflix (NFLX.US) live-streamed two National Football League (NFL) games, providing users with a seamless streaming experience, which was highly praised by users. Importantly, these two highly anticipated games brought strong viewership to Netflix.
According to Nielsen's national viewership report, the two NFL games broadcasted on Christmas Day had an average of 24.2 million viewers. The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers attracted 24.1 million viewers, while the game in which the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Houston Texans attracted 24.3 million viewers. During halftime of the Ravens vs. Texans game, Beyonc's performance drew 27 million viewers, reaching a peak viewership.
It is noteworthy that Netflix broke all streaming viewership records for NFL games and also set a record for viewership among the important 18-34 age group.
Nielsen's report stated that 65 million Americans watched at least one minute of the NFL live-stream by this streaming giant. Netflix is expected to announce its viewership data next week, and the global viewership of these games will also be disclosed. Netflix's Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said, "Bringing two record-breaking NFL games to our members is the best Christmas gift we can give."
During Christmas, Netflix also dominated the top trending topics on multiple social media platforms.
Netflix signed a three-year Christmas broadcasting agreement with the NFL, but cannot guarantee that the company will broadcast more than one game in 2025 and 2026. Looking ahead, Netflix has signed an agreement to live-stream WWE programs and the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2027 and 2031.
