According to the "Omdia Smartphone Display Panel Intelligence Service", in 2024, the shipment volume of flexible AMOLED display panels will reach 631 million units, a year-on-year growth of 24%. It is expected that by the end of this year, flexible AMOLED display panels are expected to account for 42% of the market share, surpassing the 37% share of amorphous silicon LCD panels, becoming the dominant technological force in the smartphone display panel market.
It is reported that the display panel market will adopt four display panel technologies from different production lines: flexible AMOLED display panel technology, rigid AMOLED (accounting for 12% market share), a-Si LCD, and LTPS LCD (accounting for 10% market share). The significant decrease in average selling price (ASP) of flexible AMOLED display panels has propelled its market share growth rapidly, which is also a key factor driving its shipment volume growth.
In 2023, the shipment volume of flexible AMOLED display panels grew by 31.8% to reach 508 million units, while the average selling price decreased by 14.3%. This price decrease prompted smartphone manufacturers to switch from using LCD to OLED display panels. Therefore, AMOLED technology (including flexible AMOLED and rigid AMOLED) will surpass LCD, accounting for 53% of the market share, and become the main smartphone display panel product in 2024.

Omdia believes that OLED manufacturers in mainland China increased the prices of low-end products at the beginning of 2024, but considering the long-tail effect of last year's significant OLED price drop, the average selling price of flexible AMOLED display panels is expected to decrease by 6.7% this year. By 2025, the rate of decline will slow down. Based on the procurement plans of smartphone manufacturers and the shipment targets of OLED manufacturers, it is expected that the supply and demand of flexible AMOLED display panels will remain balanced in 2025. However, further seasonal and structural adjustments will inevitably bring about price fluctuations, the magnitude of which depends on the aggressiveness of buyers or sellers wanting to break the existing pattern.
Joy Guo, Chief Analyst of Omdia Display Research, stated, "Over the next two years, the prices of flexible AMOLED display panels are expected to remain stable or slightly decrease, but there will certainly be seasonal and structural price fluctuations. However, due to limited new capacity next year, prices are unlikely to see another double-digit percentage decrease as seen in 2023."
In conclusion, Joy Guo said, "However, with the release of 8.6th generation OLED capacity by the end of 2026, and mainland Chinese OLED factories gradually completing depreciation, OLED prices are expected to experience rapid decline again. This shift will accelerate the upgrade from LCD panels to OLED in 2027."
