According to informed sources, Warner Bros. Discovery Channel and the NBA have agreed to settle their legal dispute over television broadcasting rights.
The agreement allows Warner Bros. Discovery Channel to develop new alliance content programs in the United States and overseas, as well as NBA international rights in the Nordic and Latin American regions (excluding Brazil and Mexico).
It is reported that an agreement is expected to be announced later this week.
Informed sources revealed that although Warner will lose regular season and playoff broadcasting rights on TNT after this season, the settlement agreement will give them a significant amount of NBA content rights both domestically and internationally, and the NBA will also avoid ongoing legal disputes.
This summer, Warner Bros. Discovery Channel sued the alliance after the NBA signed an 11-year, $11 billion rights agreement with ESPN, NBCUniversal under Comcast Corporation Class A, and Amazon.com, Inc. Warner Bros. Discovery Channel claimed that the NBA broadcasting games on Amazon.com, Inc. Prime Video violated the agreement reached with TNT.
Reportedly, Warner Bros. Discovery Channel's Bleacher Report and House of Highlights digital platforms will continue to access NBC content. According to sources, the company will also continue to work with the NBA's digital business in the coming years, with part of the agreement providing the company with approximately $350 million in revenue for services, promotions, programs, and marketing during the agreement's duration.
Meanwhile, sources stated that Warner Bros. Discovery Channel has reached an agreement with Walt Disney Company to authorize ESPN and ABC to broadcast the "Inside the NBA" program from TNT starting next season. The program airs throughout the NBA season.
Sources added that ESPN will reauthorize Big 12 conference football and basketball games to Warner Bros. Discovery Channel to broadcast on TNT and its Max streaming platform.
Warner Bros. Discovery Channel, the NBA, and Walt Disney Company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
