Hong Kong has risen to the seventh place in the global ranking of digital competitiveness.
In the latest "2024 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking" released by the International Institute for Management Development, Hong Kong's ranking has risen three places to seventh in the world.
The spokesperson of the Hong Kong government stated today (November 14) that in the latest "2024 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking" released by the International Management Development Institute, Hong Kong's ranking has risen three places to seventh globally. In the "2024 Ranking," Hong Kong continues to perform well in the "technology" and "knowledge" categories, ranking third and fifth respectively. Hong Kong's ranking in "readiness" has also improved.
The government spokesperson said that the ranking affirms that Hong Kong remains one of the most digitally competitive economies globally. Innovation and technology are core elements in fostering new productive forces and are important engines for driving high-quality economic development in Hong Kong. As the location of five world-class universities, Hong Kong possesses world-class research and development capabilities, innovation and technology infrastructure, and a diverse talent pool. A vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, a free and fair business environment, a simple tax system with low tax rates, along with solid policy support, create favorable conditions for Hong Kong in attracting global strategic companies and top talents.
The spokesperson also mentioned that Hong Kong has a wide network and opportunities, along with the synergistic effects with sister cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, further enhancing Hong Kong's attractiveness as the preferred destination for innovation and technology.
The spokesperson pointed out that this year's Policy Address announced a series of measures to establish a more comprehensive innovation and technology ecosystem. The government will continue to enhance innovation and technology infrastructure, such as the upcoming phase one facilities of the Cyberport Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Centre and the 3 billion Hong Kong dollar "Artificial Intelligence Funding Scheme" currently open for applications. The Hong Kong government will continue to collaborate with various sectors of society to continuously improve Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem, thus consolidating its competitive advantage in the global market and contributing to economic development.
