Recently, International Data Corporation (IDC) released the Quarterly Tracking Report on the Chinese tablet PC market for the third quarter of 2024, showing that the shipment volume in the third quarter of 2024 was 7.68 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%, maintaining a positive growth in shipment volume for three consecutive quarters.
Among them, the consumer market saw a year-on-year growth of 9.6%, with the arrival of the replacement cycle and the deepening of vendor layout, consumer demand gradually warming up. The shipment volume in the first three quarters of this year showed a continuous and stable growth trend. The shipment volume in the commercial market grew by 6.3%, with channel stocking making a significant contribution to the growth. The actual industry demand in this quarter did not land as optimistically, and the increase in channel inventory will also exert certain pressure on subsequent shipments.
The top five manufacturers in terms of shipment volume in the Chinese tablet PC market in the third quarter of 2024:
Huawei
Huawei continued to maintain the top market share position, with high-speed growth in shipment volume. In this quarter, Huawei iterated products in multiple price segments, with the new MatePad Pro and MatePad Air further strengthening Huawei's software and hardware capabilities in the mid-to-high price segments, while the MatePad SE 11 successfully catering to the market of users in the thousand-yuan price segment. Huawei's leading advantage in the commercial market further expanded, but sales pressure due to market environment and product iterations cannot be ignored.
Apple
Apple (AAPL.US) ranked second in market share. The back-to-school promotion activity starting in July boosted sales of the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, but facing fierce competition from domestic brands and the high prices of its own products, combined with the impact of channel inventory in the previous quarter, Apple's shipment volume continued to decline year-on-year in the third quarter.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi (01810) ranked third in market share, with fast growth in shipment volume in the third quarter as the Xiaomi and Redmi product lines operated more smoothly. To prepare for the launch of new products in October, the Xiaomi tablet 6 series entered the final stage of shipment, driving an increase in the share of e-commerce channels.
Honor
Honor ranked fourth in the market, with a slight year-on-year increase in shipment volume. In the third quarter, Honor launched the new MagicPad 2, further enhancing screen performance and office scenarios, expanding its market layout in the mid-to-high price segments. In the commercial market, with price advantages and the shipment of the new Z series, Honor maintained fast growth.
Lenovo
Lenovo ranked fifth in market share. The performance in the consumer market was impressive, with low channel inventory by the end of the first half of the year providing a good foundation for Lenovo's shipment in the third quarter, and the launch of the new generation Xiaoxin Pro further accelerated shipment growth. In the commercial market, Lenovo achieved steady growth in shipment volume this quarter based on its deep accumulation in the education sector.
Liu Yun, Senior Analyst at IDC China, stated that the shipment volume in the Chinese tablet PC market for the third quarter of 2024 continued to grow year-on-year, benefiting from a series of promotions and subsidies as well as effective supplementation of products in the middle and low price segments. The average market price dropped by 3.2% month-on-month, effectively stimulating the release of consumer demand. In the fourth quarter, many manufacturers will focus on upgrading product configurations, improving functional scenarios, optimizing system ecology, and integrating AI technology to launch their new products, injecting new vitality and growth potential into the market.
