Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Telecommunications industry revenue in the first 8 months cumulatively reached 1.1732 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology data shows that in the first 8 months, the cumulative revenue of the telecommunications industry reached 1.1732 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%. When calculated at constant prices from the previous year, the total volume of telecommunications services increased by 11.1% year-on-year. In the first 8 months, the three basic telecommunications companies generated 181.6 billion yuan in revenue from internet broadband services, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%, accounting for 15.5% of the telecommunications service revenue, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous 7 months, contributing to a 0.7 percentage point increase in telecommunications service revenue. In the first 8 months, the three basic telecommunications companies generated 434.2 billion yuan in revenue from mobile data traffic services, a year-on-year decrease of 2%, accounting for 37% of telecommunications service revenue, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous 7 months. The three basic telecommunications companies actively developed emerging businesses such as IPTV, internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and the internet of things in the first 8 months, generating a total revenue of 289.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%, accounting for 24.7% of telecommunications service revenue and contributing to a 2.4 percentage point increase in telecommunications service revenue. As of the end of August, the total number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.189 billion, a net increase of 52.78 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of fiber access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1.148 billion, a net increase of 53.43 million from the end of the previous year, accounting for 96.6% of Internet broadband access ports. As of the end of August, the number of 10G PON ports capable of providing gigabit network services reached 27.07 million, a net increase of 4.054 million from the end of the previous year. As of the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations reached 4.042 million, a net increase of 665,000 from the end of the previous year, accounting for 32.1% of the total number of mobile base stations, an increase of 3 percentage points compared to the end of the previous year. Figure 11: Development of 5G base stations Regional development situation The penetration rate of gigabit users in many regions has reached or exceeded 30%. As of the end of August, the penetration rates of fixed broadband users with speeds of 1000Mbps or higher in the East, Central, West, and Northeast regions were 29.9%, 29.8%, 29.5%, and 21.3%, respectively. The penetration rates of broadband users with access speeds of 1000Mbps or higher in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions were 30.6% and 29%, respectively, an increase of 0.4 percentage points from the previous seven months. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region leads in the development and application of 5G. As of the end of August, the number of 5G base stations in the East, Central, West, and Northeast regions reached 1.785 million, 916,000, 1.082 million, and 259,000, respectively, accounting for 33.1%, 33.5%, 29.3%, and 32.9% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in each region. The number of 5G mobile phone users in each region reached 422 million, 228 million, 251 million, and 65 million households, accounting for 54.7%, 54.7%, 54%, and 52.4% of the total number of mobile phone users in each region. As of the end of August, the number of 5G base stations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions reached 373,000 and 783,000, respectively, accounting for 35.3% and 33.2% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in each region; 5G mobile phone users reached 83.29 million and 173.80 million households, accounting for 55.1% and 53.7% of the total number of mobile phone users in each region. Eight provinces have a DOU value of over 20GB per household per month. In the first eight months of the year, the mobile Internet access traffic in the East, Central, West, and Northeast regions reached 91.37 billion GB, 51.21 billion GB, 63.04 billion GB, and 12.02 billion GB, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 8.7%, 17.5%, 12.9%, and 20.1%. The mobile Internet access traffic in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions reached 16.59 billion GB and 37.51 billion GB, with year-on-year growth rates of 18.5% and 5.6%, respectively. In August, eight provinces had a monthly average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) exceeding 20GB per household, with a difference of 19.5GB per household between the highest and lowest DOU values, an increase of 5.9GB per household compared to the same period last year.
