Hong Kong Airport's passenger traffic in August increased by 23% year-on-year, reaching a new post-epidemic high in single-day passenger reception during peak hours.
The Hong Kong Airport Authority announced that in August, the passenger throughput at the airport was approximately 4.92 million, with a cargo throughput of 406,000 metric tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 23% and 10.6% respectively. The aircraft movements also increased by 26.1% to 31,605 take-offs and landings.

In August, the peak daily passenger traffic exceeded 170,000. On August 18th, the airport welcomed 174,600 passengers, setting a new post-pandemic high. All categories of passengers including Hong Kong residents, visitors, and transit/transfer passengers saw significant year-on-year increases, with the most notable growth seen in travel to and from Southeast Asia, Mainland China, and Japan.
The airport continued to see double-digit year-on-year growth in freight volume in August. Export cargo volume increased by 14.6%, with the largest growth seen in cargo to and from Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
In the first eight months of the year, passenger traffic reached 34.9 million, aircraft movements totaled 237,435, representing year-on-year increases of 43.5% and 41.4% respectively. Freight volume also increased by 16.5% to about 3.2 million tons.
