Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) will hold a summit on Tuesday local time to discuss measures to improve network security systems. In July of this year, a software update from CrowdStrike (CRWD.US) malfunctioned, causing a global IT system outage. The meeting signifies an important first step for Microsoft Corporation in addressing the issues that affected nearly 8.5 million Windows devices on July 19, disrupting operations in industries ranging from major airlines to banks and healthcare. The event will take place at Microsoft Corporation's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, with invited government representatives in attendance. The July outage raised concerns that many organizations are not adequately prepared to implement emergency plans when their IT systems or software experience single point failures. Analysts have noted that the outage also exposed the risks of relying on a single vendor to provide a one-stop security solution. Delta Air Lines, Inc. (DAL.US) has stated that following the outage, which led to numerous flight cancellations and at least $5 billion in losses for the airline, the company is pursuing legal claims against CrowdStrike and Microsoft Corporation.
