Recently, CATHAY PAC AIR (00293) had to cancel some flights due to the discovery of a faulty engine component in Airbus A350 aircraft. On September 4, CATHAY PAC AIR announced that the maintenance progress of its A350 fleet was satisfactory. Out of the 15 A350 aircraft that needed engine fuel pipe replacements, 6 have been repaired and are ready to operate. The remaining 9 aircraft will continue to undergo maintenance and are expected to resume operations by this Saturday (September 7) or earlier. In addition to the previously announced cancellations, CATHAY PAC AIR is expected to cancel an additional 11 round-trip short-haul flights between September 5 and 7. They do not anticipate any further flight cancellations, and including the earlier cancellations, CATHAY PAC AIR has canceled a total of 45 round-trip flights from September 2 to 7. All canceled flights except for one long-haul flight on September 2 were short-haul routes. Cathay Pacific's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Ronald Lam stated that the engine component fault in the A350 aircraft was a global first and presented a significant challenge for the airline. He expressed gratitude for the efforts to address the issue and minimize the impact on flights, acknowledging that inspecting and repairing all A350 aircraft in a short period of time was a daunting task.
