Small in size, light in movement, soft and cute in appearance, at 4 pm on September 2nd, a Zhongtong unmanned express delivery vehicle drove into the Yanqiao Street area of Wuxi, Jiangsu. This short 4-kilometer delivery distance achieved an industry breakthrough - according to the Zhongtong Zhi Jia unmanned vehicle operating management platform, the actual operating mileage of unmanned vehicles supervised by the platform has officially exceeded one million kilometers.
The Zhongtong Zhi Jia unmanned vehicle operating management platform was launched in April 2024, becoming the first digital management platform for unmanned vehicles in the express delivery industry. With the network advantages and scale advantages of Zhongtong Express, the Zhi Jia platform now directly connects to over 100 branches in 40 cities nationwide, with a total of over 200 unmanned vehicles. This allows for real-time digital monitoring and management of unmanned vehicles operating across the country, improving the convenience and safety of unmanned vehicle transport on different routes.
"The Zhongtong Zhi Jia unmanned vehicle operating management platform is a platform product that connects express logistics companies with unmanned vehicle development companies, aiming to provide a comprehensive solution for unmanned vehicle operations. This platform can promote industry-government platform docking, establish standard systems, promote regulatory perfection, expand industry road rights, and actively promote industry applications to jointly build the industry ecosystem." said Jin Renqun, Vice President of Zhongtong Express Group. The main application scenario of unmanned express delivery vehicles is short-distance transportation from branches to community end stores, which can effectively empower branches to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
Behind the launch of the Zhongtong Zhi Jia unmanned vehicle operating management platform is Zhongtong's continuous exploration of the practical application of digitalization over the years:
On October 25, 2019, ZTO EXPRESS-W (02057) obtained the "Intelligent Networked Vehicle Open Road Transport Business License," becoming one of the first express delivery companies to obtain a license for commercial use of unmanned logistics vehicles; In 2021, Zhongtong launched the integrated community unmanned vehicle project and introduced automatic driving light commercial vehicles; In 2023, Zhongtong partnered with Xinzhiqi unmanned vehicles to jointly promote the large-scale application of autonomous driving technology in the delivery field; Meanwhile, Zhongtong Express's mapping company Zhongtong Xuntian Technology has been assessed and approved by the competent department to become a Class A surveying and mapping qualification unit, obtaining a Class A surveying and mapping qualification certificate for internet map services.
Currently, Zhongtong's unmanned vehicles have been preliminarily deployed for large-scale applications in various parts of the country, serving communities within a 15-kilometer radius of the branches, providing services such as short-haul transfers for parcels, with each vehicle delivering 500-800 parcels per day on average.
At the Yanqiao branch of Zhongtong in Wuxi, 3 unmanned vehicles have been introduced, shuttling between 15 different stations every day for delivery. Each unmanned vehicle can carry about 700 parcels, with a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour, a full load range of about 140 kilometers, fully meeting the needs of daily express delivery.
These unmanned vehicles are equipped with AEB (automatic emergency braking system) and BEV visual detection obstacle avoidance system, which can autonomously turn, efficiently avoid obstacles, precisely wait for traffic lights, yield to pedestrians at zebra crossings, patiently wait for gate lifting when entering and exiting communities, and carry out a series of intelligent operations such as intelligent operations. "Our unmanned vehicles are now experienced drivers, slowing down and avoiding obstacles in advance as soon as they see them, making the whole journey very smooth," said Zhang Shihe, a guide for Xinzhiqi's unmanned vehicles in Wuxi.
The head of the Yanqiao branch, Chen Fei, also said, "We plan to introduce more unmanned express delivery vehicles, covering all express stations in Wuxi as soon as possible, allowing the public to experience more convenient and intelligent logistics services."
Currently, the Zhongtong Zhi Jia unmanned vehicle operating management platform, with the geographic information data center as its core foundation, supported by the road rights allocation platform, operation supervision platform, and business control platform, has been constructed and promoted to branches nationwide.
"As a typical new productive force of the Zhongtong Express delivery network, unmanned vehicles extend the digital and intelligent tentacles more fully to every link of receipt, transfer, and delivery, bridging the last mile delivery pain points of express delivery, providing customers with fast, accurate, and safe logistics service experiences." Jin Renqun said.
In addition, in the field of drones, three routes in Tonglu, Zhejiang have entered the substantive operation stage, with a total running mileage of over 48,000 kilometers and delivering over 10,000 parcels; in Nanjing, Jiangsu, Zhongtong's terminal drones have conducted food delivery on Jiangxinzhou Island, moving towards commercialization, with a total running mileage of over 9,000 kilometers and delivering over 2,000 parcels; in Xinjiang, two normal unmanned aerial vehicle support routes have been opened to complete cargo flights. In addition, Zhongtong's Nanjing drone base serves as a training base for targeted unmanned talent recruitment for Zhongtong Express, directly linking industry, enterprises, and positions through "simulation + practical operation" in line with the needs of unmanned aerial vehicle projects.
