National Development and Reform Commission: During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, China's food security will have solid guarantees.
At the "Striving for the 15th Five-Year Plan" series of press conferences held by the National Development and Reform Commission today, it was learned that domestic grain market supply is ample and operations are stable, and China's food security will have solid guarantees during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. Kou Rong, deputy director of the Economic and Trade Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that China's grain harvests have been bumper year after year, achieving "basic self-sufficiency in grains and absolute security of staple food," with per capita grain availability exceeding 500 kilograms, higher than the world average and the internationally recognized food security line. The grain stock-to-consumption ratio across society is far above the 17%-18% international food security warning line. Next, further efforts will be made to advance grain production, optimize the production structure, strengthen grain purchasing, sales, and reserve management, enhance the reserve adjustment function, and promote quality and efficiency improvements in grain circulation. Stable and controllable overseas supply channels will be established, and scarce high-quality varieties will be imported appropriately, so as to keep the Chinese people's rice bowl firmly in their own hands.
