Samsung Electronics will use its second wafer foundry in Taylor, Texas, to produce base dies for high-bandwidth memory chips for AMD and Nvidia, South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper reported on Tuesday. The plant is expected to break ground officially this month, and its entire capacity has already been booked, with most orders coming from AMD, according to the report. The plant will adopt advanced 2-nanometer process technology, cover about 2.7 million square feet, and be roughly 1.5 times the size of Samsung's first plant. Samsung's first plant has already signed a contract with Tesla. The report said the plant is expected to begin installing equipment in February 2029 and start mass production in 2030.
