The Phase III project of State Power Investment Corporation's Shandong Haiyang Nuclear Power Project has commenced construction.

State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) announced on October 31 that the first can of concrete has been poured for the nuclear island of Unit 5 of the SPIC Shandong Haiyang Nuclear Power project, a key project under the company's "15th Five-Year Plan," marking the start of construction of Phase III of the Haiyang nuclear power project. Located in Haiyang, Shandong Province, the Haiyang nuclear power project is among the world's first third-generation nuclear power projects, with its site planned for six million-kilowatt-class nuclear power units in three phases. Units 5 and 6 of Phase III, whose construction has now begun, adopt domestically produced third-generation advanced passive pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology, and the project is the first nuclear power project in Shandong Province to start construction during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period.
