According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon Inspector General has rejected a bipartisan request from lawmakers to investigate recent disruptions to Ukraine's "Starlink" and "Starshield" satellite internet services. The move has raised concerns among lawmakers who worry that the military, and even its independent inspector general, are unwilling to confront SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's influence over defense communications. Earlier this month, Ukrainian officials reported that connection speeds for the Starlink service created by Musk and its military version, Starshield, had been restricted. A bipartisan group of senators subsequently asked the Pentagon Inspector General to launch an investigation. These satellite networks are critical to Ukraine's wartime communications, and Ukrainian officials said the restrictions hampered Ukraine's ability to intercept Russian high-speed attack drones.
