Amazon (AMZN.O) cut about 250 jobs in its Devices and Services division on Wednesday. This came weeks after the company rolled out several new products, including new Kindle e-readers and tablets. An Amazon spokesperson said: "We made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles," but did not elaborate. A person familiar with the matter said the layoffs involved no more than 250 positions, mainly in software development. The spokesperson said the layoffs would help the company "improve operating efficiency and better align with our product roadmap." Earlier this month, Amazon cut about 1,000 jobs in its core retail division. The company will report third-quarter earnings after the U.S. market close on Thursday.
