Xiaomi Discloses Latest Technological Exploration Results for Dexterous Hand
On October 27, Xiaomi disclosed the results of its exploration into biomimetic dexterous hand technology. The Xiaomi robotics team conducted complete data collection and analytical validation based on 1,827 standard operating procedures at an automobile factory. Simulation ablation analysis based on real operational data showed that in the 1721 degrees-of-freedom (DOF) range, the average stable grasp success rate of the biomimetic dexterous hand improved by 15%38% compared with 615 DOF, with the 21-DOF configuration showing the greatest improvement in factory operation coverage and grasp success rate. In this scenario, when DOF continued to increase to 23 and above, the improvement in grasping capability slowed markedly, and the marginal benefit of stacking DOF declined. Based on these conclusions, Xiaomi designed a new 21-DOF biomimetic dexterous hand, adopting a hybrid actuation and tendon tension control scheme.
