Broadcom (AVGO.O) and Anthropic have finalized a $63 billion debt deal to finance artificial intelligence infrastructure. The chipmaker's CEO has spent nearly two months trying to get banks to commit more than $40 billion to what would be the largest AI debt deal ever. The deal is intended to allow Anthropic to lease custom chips that Broadcom is co-developing with Google. With its superior credit rating, Broadcom has agreed to provide some financial guarantees to give banks more confidence in the enormous risk of more than $40 billion in loans. But people familiar with the matter said that in recent weeks, some banks have become increasingly anxious about participating in the deal, code-named "Project Polaris."
