Demonstrations and public gatherings were held in multiple cities across Portugal.
On October 24 local time, multiple cities in Portugal continued to hold demonstrations and public gatherings, demanding that the government take measures to address the housing crisis. Large-scale demonstrations broke out in major Portuguese cities including Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra. The protesting public demanded that the Portuguese government adopt a series of housing-related measures, such as stopping forced house demolitions or evictions of residents without alternative arrangements, increasing public housing, implementing rent caps, and using vacant properties for housing. Housing-related protests in many parts of Portugal have been ongoing for about two weeks, and residents in some major cities also plan to set up camps in squares or carry out actions such as overnight vigils.
