A tanker was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz, and weekly vessel transits declined.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on the 23rd that an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting out of the Strait of Hormuz, and subsequently continued to its next port of call. In a weekly report released the same day, the office showed that vessel transits through the strait between the 15th and 21st declined compared with the previous week. The notice said the tanker attack occurred at 17:15 UTC on the 22nd, approximately 7 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman. The notice did not disclose the vessel's name, flag, or casualty information. It said an investigation is underway and reminded passing vessels to navigate with caution and report any suspicious activity. The weekly report released by UKMTO on the 23rd showed that between the 15th and 21st, the agency recorded 241 vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz, down about 5.1% from 254 the previous week and about 70% below pre-conflict levels. Citing an assessment by the Joint Maritime Information Center, the report said the maritime security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains "severe," meaning there is a high likelihood of vessels being attacked.
