Hainan "seeks strength through seed development" as new varieties move from the lab to the fields.
"Striving for strength through seed breeding" is one of the characteristic industrial chains that Hainan Free Trade Port will focus on cultivating during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. In Hainan, research institutions and planting enterprises are working together to move new varieties from the laboratory to the fields, forging a path of innovative development. Institutional innovation has become a new engine for the high-quality development of Hainan's seed industry. Since the "open call for bids" approach to seed industry innovation was launched more than two years ago, Hainan has approved 45 new rice varieties, 11 new corn varieties, and 39 new varieties of crops such as sweet potato, melon, and pepper. The continuously improving policy support system is paving a "high-speed road" for the development of the seed industry.
