French stock market valuation discount versus German stock market hits largest since 2009.
As political turmoil and weekend unrest drove investors out of French equities, the valuation discount of France's CAC 40 index relative to German stocks widened to the largest in nearly two decades. France's equity benchmark underperformed other regions on Monday and now trades at a valuation discount of more than 13% to Germany's DAX index, the widest since early 2009, when the global financial crisis dealt a heavy blow to stock markets. The latest round of selling in French equities came after street violence over the weekend, further eroding investor confidence. Even before that, investors had already been rattled by France's mounting debt and uncertainty over next year's presidential election.
