Mark Cancian, an expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said that during roughly seven months of fighting with Iran, the U.S. military expended a number of Patriot interceptor missiles equivalent to about 19 years of prior U.S. procurement. CSIS estimates that before the war the United States had approximately 2,200 to 2,330 new Patriot interceptor missiles, used about 1,060 to 1,500, and had only about one-third of its pre-war stockpile remaining. Before the war, the United States procured on average only about 225 interceptor missiles per year. Currently, Lockheed Martin produces about 600 to 650 per year for the United States and its allies. CSIS expects that it will take the United States at least three years to restore pre-war stockpile levels, and warns that during this period, if another major conflict occurs, the United States could face a "window of vulnerability."
