The U.S. military has depleted a large number of Patriot missiles over seven months, and replenishing the stockpile will take at least three years.
In about seven months of combat operations against Iran, the U.S. military expended Patriot air-defense interceptors equivalent to 19 years' worth of procurement. The Center for Strategic and International Studies estimates that before the war began the United States had approximately 2,200 to 2,330 modern Patriot interceptors; the conflict consumed roughly 1,060 to 1,500 of them, leaving only about one-third of the pre-war stockpile. Before the war, the United States procured only about 225 interceptors per year on average; Lockheed Martin currently produces about 600 to 650 per year for the United States and its allies. CSIS predicts that rebuilding to pre-war inventory levels will take at least three years, and warns that in the event of a conflict with China, the United States will face a "window of vulnerability."
