Mercedes-Benz Group's AMG brand has launched its first fully in-house-developed all-electric SUV, hoping to stand out in an increasingly competitive luxury car market with high performance. The entry-level AMG GT SUV starts at 113,050 euros (about $127,060) and will officially go on sale next Tuesday, while the two higher-trim models are planned for launch next spring. The model directly targets the all-electric Cayenne that Porsche launched last November. To attract performance-focused consumers, the AMG GT SUV holds a slight edge in power output. The car is equipped with three axial-flux motors and an 800-volt battery system, with maximum output of up to 1,169 horsepower. The base version has a maximum range of up to 668 kilometers (415 miles), while the top-trim model can travel up to 700 kilometers on a single charge. The highest-spec version accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. The car is aimed mainly at consumers seeking driving performance, and will also compete with Jaguar Land Rover's upcoming first all-electric Range Rover, as well as the all-electric SUV recently launched by Volkswagen Group's Bentley.
