U.S. manufacturing output rebounded in September after declining the previous month, consistent with this year's recovery trend in manufacturing driven by capital investment. Data released by the Federal Reserve on Friday showed that manufacturing output rose 0.3%, while the August figure was revised to a decline of 0.2%. The September increase matched the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Overall industrial production, including mining and utilities, rose 0.7%, the largest increase in five months. Utilities output increased 3.5%, likely reflecting strong electricity demand from the hottest September on record. Mining output also rose. Sal Guatieri, a senior economist at BMO Capital Markets, said in a report: "Driven by the AI boom and healthy consumer demand, American factories continue to achieve modest growth in goods output."
